Undergraduate Academic Support Program
In accordance with the protocol signed in 2006 between the TDV Centre for Islamic Studies (İSAM) and the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University, a program named "Undergraduate Academic Support Program" (LADEP) is conducted for theology students.
Since 2006, LADEP’s primary goal has been to provide young individuals who wish to develop themselves in Islamic sciences with a vision of how they can achieve these ideals, guide them, and assist in their initial steps on this path. LADEP aims not to offer an alternative to theological education but to support and supplement the education received by participants at their faculties through the implemented program.
LADEP seminars are designed not merely to read classical Arabic texts but to encourage participants to think about how Islamic sciences should be understood and studied today while also aiming to enhance their academic abilities. Concurrent activities are conducted alongside the seminars to develop participants' research and expression skills.
LADEP, initially a certificate program, has evolved into a three-stage independent educational program. The first stage (LADEP-1), consisting of seminars on the concepts and systematics of Islamic sciences, lasts for one year. The second stage (LADEP-2) extends over two years and includes seminars on the literature and current issues of these sciences. The third stage (LADEP-Specialization) involves personalized preparatory work for master's programs and typically begins in the final year of undergraduate studies and continues through the master's coursework.
LADEP accepts applications for all three stages at the beginning of the academic year. Candidates are evaluated based on their grade point average, university entrance exam ranking, and the information requested in the application form. The most influential factor in this evaluation is the candidate’s commitment to maintaining a lifelong interest in Islamic sciences.
