al-Tamhīd li Qawāid al-Tawḥīd

In al-Tamhīd, which is a classical book on Islamic theology, the articles of Islamic creed are presented concisely together with their proofs within the framework of the Māturīdī tradition. Abu al-Mu‘īn al-Nasafī tries to prove the issues based on rational and textual evidences. The number of verses and hadiths that he presented as textual evidence in his book is quite significant.

Al-Nasafī is a scholar who systematized the tradition of Islamic theology, which started with Abu Ḥanifa and was shaped by Imam al-Māturīdī, one of his prominent followers, and influenced his followers after him with his works. This work of al-Nasafī is structured based on the same scheme with Ṭabṣirat al-Adilla, which is a work that includes all the basic topics of the science of Islamic theology (ilāhiyyāt, nubuwwāt, sam‘iyyāt) in terms of the way it deals with the subjects and its classification. In this regard, al-Nasafī’s book is like a summary of Ṭabṣirat.

The text of al-Tamhīd was critically edited by Dr. Ali Tarık Ziyat Yılmaz using the oldest and most reliable manuscripts, and was published by ISAM in 2020 together with its annotation al-Tasdīd (ISAM, 2020). To provide a better understanding of this work, al-Tamhīd is published separately with its critical edition notes.
