In this book, the scholar of Hadith (muhaddith) and historian Abu Abdullah Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Dhahabi (d. 748/1348) introduces the leading scholars of the Qur’an, starting from the time of the 2nd Caliph Othman b. Affan until his own era; he also examines the proper recitation of the Qur’an (qira’ah).
