Prof.Dr. M&uuml;rteza Bedir was born in 1968 in Sivas, Suşehri. She completed her undergraduate education at Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1992. He started to work as a research assistant at Sakarya University in 1993 and went to England in 1994 to complete his graduate studies on behalf of the same university with a Y&Ouml;K scholarship. She completed her MA (LLM, 1996) at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), School of Law, University of London. He received his doctorate from Manchester University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Middle Eastern Studies with his thesis named &ldquo;Early Development of Hanafi Legal Theory (Usul al-fiqh)&rdquo; (1999). She started to work as an assistant professor at Sakarya University Faculty of Theology in 2000. In 2002-2003 academic year, she conducted research in this country with a scholarship from the Syrian Ministry of National Education. He became an associate professor of Islamic Law in 2005 and continued to work as an associate professor at Sakarya University until the end of 2010. In the 2007-2008 academic year, he conducted research as a visiting professor at Harvard University Law School. In January 2011, he started to work as a professor at the Faculty of Theology of Istanbul University, of which he is still a member. He has been serving as the dean of the same faculty since March 2013. Bedir, who was appointed as the Turkey representative of the International Fiqh Academy affiliated to the Organization of the Islamic Conference in 2015, was elected as a member of the DIB High Council of Religious Affairs in the same year. Murteza Bedir, who is married and has four children, speaks Arabic and English.

The work Tahsīl al-Uṣūl al-Fiqh wa Tafṣīl al-Maqālāt Fīhā ʿAlā al-Wajh is a significant contribution by ʿUmar al-Nasafī, best known for his foundational work in Ḥanafī-Māturīdī theology, famously referred to as al-ʿAqāʾid al-Nasafiyya. Once believed lost, Tahsīl al-Uṣūl al-Fiqh was preserved within al-Nasafī&#39;s encyclopedic work Maṭlaʿ al-Nujūm. It serves as both a summary of ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn al-Samarqandī&#39;s Mīzān al-Uṣūl and the second notable text in the Ḥanafī-Māturīdī uṣūl tradition.

The critical edition of the text, prepared by Prof. Murteza Bedir based on two existing manuscripts, is presented as a textbook suitable for teaching the Ḥanafī-Māturīdī understanding of uṣūl al-fiqh. To aid student comprehension, the work is organized with clear and systematic headings. It is enriched with explanatory content derived from Mīzān, which is considered a quasi-commentary on the text. These additions are incorporated into the work in square brackets, enhancing the accessibility and educational value of the text.

Tahsīl al-Uṣūl al-Fiqh, distinct from classical Ḥanafī uṣūl texts, serves not only as an introductory book for those seeking to understand the principles of the Māturīdī theological school but also as an essential guide for those aiming to grasp the broader tradition of Māturīdī thought. Its unique approach, rooted in Māturīdī principles of theology, offers insight into the foundation of Islamic jurisprudence from a distinctive perspective.
